Dr. Sadé Dunn, an esteemed Assistant Professor at Bowie State University, is a beacon of expertise and compassion in the field of counseling and mental health. Holding the esteemed titles of Approved Supervisor and Licensed Professional Counselor/Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, Dr. Dunn brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her practice.

A proud alumna of Governors and Bowie State University, Dr. Dunn's academic journey has been marked by dedication and excellence. Her commitment to advancing the field of counseling extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her active involvement in professional organizations and boards.

Dr. Dunn's contributions to the Maryland Counselors for Social Justice board as the counselor representative from 2019 to 2022 underscore her commitment to advocacy and social change within the counseling community. Her leadership as a Maryland Counseling Association Emerging Leader for the 2020-2021 term further exemplifies her dedication to shaping the future of the profession.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Dr. Dunn is a Reiki Level II Practitioner and a registered yoga teacher at the 200 level. Her holistic approach to healing encompasses modalities that promote balance, clarity, and relaxation. Through her Reiki practice, Dr. Dunn facilitates the release of energy blockages, promoting restoration and well-being for her clients.

Continuing her journey of learning and growth, Dr. Dunn is currently pursuing advanced yoga studies with the goal of attaining a 500-level registered yoga teacher certification. Her dedication to expanding her knowledge and skills reflects her commitment to holistic wellness and personal development.

Dr. Dunn's research interests are as diverse as her professional pursuits, encompassing areas such as perinatal mental health, positive parenting, trauma-focused therapy; centered around Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the identity development of mental health professionals. Her research in perinatal mental health seeks to address the unique challenges faced by individuals during pregnancy and postpartum, with a focus on interventions and support systems to promote maternal mental health and well-being.

In the realm of positive parenting, Dr. Dunn explores effective strategies and interventions to enhance parent-child relationships and promote healthy development in children. Her research informs evidence-based practices that empower parents and caregivers to create nurturing and supportive environments for their children.

Drawing on her expertise in trauma therapy, particularly EMDR, Dr. Dunn investigates innovative approaches to trauma treatment and recovery. Her research aims to advance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying trauma healing and to enhance therapeutic outcomes for individuals impacted by trauma.
